The Whimbrel could be a aquatic bird within the massive family Scolopacidae. it's one in all the foremost widespread of the curlews, breeding across a lot of of polar circle North America, Europe and Asia as way South as Scotland.
The Whimbrels are large wader at 18 inches in length and has a wingspan of 32 inches. Whimbrels are most easily identified by their long, narrow, curved beaks. They are common in Galapagos & in much of the world. Whimbrels migrate, preferring to nest in the colder northern climes.
Whimbrel eats
small fish, insects and crustaceans. They are commonly seen in near tidal
pools, poking around for a good meal. The Whimbrel feeds by probing soft mud for
small invertebrates and by picking small crabs, marine worms and similar prey
off the surface.
The only similar common species over most of this birds range
are larger curlews. The Whimbrels are smaller, has a shorter, decurved bill and
has a central crown stripe and strong supercilia.
